1. Calling all Birds! We have our own social network called FeatherFaceBook and the link to join is in the toolbar above! This is a fun, innovative way for birds to network just like the humans do on Facebook and share photos and videos of our beautiful selves! Have your human read these instructions first . It's a good idea to print them out or have this site open in another tab while you go through the registration process.
2. On the main page of FeatherFaceBook, you will see "Not a member? Sign up Now! Click on this.
3. For nickname, best to use the bird's name. Remember, when you post, you will be speaking as your bird, not as a human like you do on Facebook. If your bird's name is a popular one like "Tiki", odds are that it will have been taken so add something on so we know which bird it is. Example: "Tiki from California" or "Tiki the Macaw". You can make accounts for all your birds, but each bird will need his/her own email. If you have a lot of birds, just use the chattiest ones!
4. First and last name: Use the bird's first name and your last name. This won't show on the profile. Or just use your last initial if you prefer.
5. Gender: The bird's gender if known. If not known, guess!
6. Date of birth: If your bird is under 13 years old, use the human's year of birth or it won't let you register.
7. Email: You must have a unique email for each account. If you don't have enough emails between your home, work, kids or whatever, get new ones at Hotmail or Yahoo.
8. Password: I recommend keeping it simple and easy to remember. If you have more than one bird, use the same password for all of them.
9. City and Country: Self explanatory.
10. Name of your human: Put your own name in here and preferably your User Name from The Perch so we know who you are. Example: Tara (Tiki)
11. Species: Species of the bird.
12. The rest of the questions will appear on your profile and are meant to be fun and give an idea of the bird's personality. I can see a lot of birds registering with occupations like "demolition expert", "dictator", "supervisor", etc! Be as silly as you want! For interests, what are your bird's interested in? Put things like foraging toys, birds of the opposite (or same) sex, anything that suits what your bird likes! Remember, this is a FUN site!
13. You will get an email to click on and verify, then you are in!
14. Once you are in, the first thing you should do is edit your profile, choose your privacy options (best to hide the birthday since it will be the human's) and upload a photo to be your avatar.
15. Then get busy adding photos, videos (you can embed them right from YouTube) and invite other birds to be your friends! Just like Facebook, you can write on their walls, comment on their photos and be silly with them!
16. For the time being, we are running a free software package that has mandatory Google ads under the banner (just as this page has mandatory ads). We may upgrade in the future to a premium package to get rid of the advertising. Until then, it is up to you to click on them as you wish.
